Backstage Pass: Lil Wayne to Lanvin

Lil Wayne to Lanvin from Pretty Young Thing on Vimeo.

Much like every other American teenager, Ali Stephens is a little enamored with the self-embellished rapping sensation that is Lil Wayne. Despite his creepiness, the girl can’t help but listen to “Prom Queen” on repeat, imitating him down to that horrific burping noise. After a Milan season replete with car rides full of the song, Ali toned it down for Paris, where she sang the hit on the way to the Lanvin show (wait for the end when she nails the vocoder effect). And since our sis is quick to provide miniature performances even when there are no cameras in sight, expect more than a few similarly fun acts in the near future.

Backstage Pass: Chit-Chat with the Models

Model Chatter at Christopher Kane from Pretty Young Thing on Vimeo.

Models have no qualms posing for photographers and hamming it up for the fashion paparazzi… but interviews for unfamiliar reporters backstage? Not exactly their favorite part of the job. So when Fashion TV asked a model crew backstage at Christopher Kane that included Ali Stephens, Karlie Kloss, Alana Zimmer, and Hanne Gaby for a few innocent questions, the girls turned it into a fun mannequin-to-mannequin questionnaire. Watch the video as Ali and Karlie talk London, clothes, and rhubarb smoothies.

Backstage Pass: Witches, Rebels, and Wang…Oh My!

In this Pretty Young Thing exclusive, we present more raw footage of Elite girl Ali Stephens, this time showing off her unparalleled acting and memorization skills (note the emphasis on raw…). Our no-apologies-favorite impersonates empty-headed Hocus Pocus bad boy Jay (die-hards will remember him as the grungy blonde with an unconcealed peeping hobby and a naughty pilfering habit). Dressed up as the anonymous rebel on Halloween, she was the picture of early ’90s chic… very Alexander Wang, don’t you think? Click on for the original scene, or here for more pics.

Backstage Pass: Blizzard Babe

Salt Lake City, Utah is a snowy mess these days, but such extreme weather isn’t hindering model resident Ali Stephens from her usual shenanigans. On a trip to the grocery store (yes, she walked… soo green) and Arctic expedition-ready, she experimented licking a neighborhood stop sign… since clearly bundling up like the little Parker boys ignited a burning curiosity. Check out the clip to find out if she survived the metallic tasting and polar temperatures.

Backstage Pass: Zara Pals

Awwwww

Back when Ali Stephens and Taylor Fuchs shot the fall Zara Traffic collection together, the cat-eyed models became fast friends. With their similar looks they make the perfect couple…er, team. (To the left is them at New York Fashion Week S/S 09.) Someone get them an edit together, pronto. Until then, enjoy some Zara pics after the jump.

Backstage Pass: Oh So Coco

The fashion blogging world is aflame with both ubermodel and Vogue favorite Coco Rocha’s fiery new red hair color and the timely reveal of her new blog (eponymously titled Oh So Coco). Not only is the blog an intimate perspective into the dear Canadian’s model life (nothing says “super secret behind the scenes footage” like toothbrushing and closeted video conversations), but it also has a knack for simultaneously making you feel incredibly awkward, delighted, embarassed, terrified, and hilariously entertained. Can style.com’s professionally produced “Model.Live” really inspire those types of emotions? And all at once?! (Not that Cato doesn’t have it in her or anything…) Didn’t think so. So now that you’ve received this delightful introduction, we’ll provide a little ten-minute peek at the site’s groundbreaking content (skip to 7:20 for a real gem of a production). We love it when models rage, jump around, and scream like wild people, and Coco and BFF Namibian model Behati Prinsloo provide plenty of it.

P.S. Yes, Coco really is this outrageously dramatic…and we love her for it.

Backstage Pass: Primp and Prep

It’s easy to forget the hours of preparation that go into a fifteen-minute runway presentation…the three hours preceding the show alone are stressful enough to make an innocent bystander dash toward the exit. But what about for the models, makeup artists, and hairstylists producing the vision, the photographers capturing every twitch, eyelash flutter, and smoked cigarette, the DJ mixing MIA and Glass Candy? Such hectic backstage activities are quickly forgotten once the (often just stitched) collection makes it’s way onto the catwalk. The girls pristine, the clothes neatly steamed, the music thumping… we’ll leave those photo ops for the professionals (aka Marcio and friends). Not that we don’t appreciate Greg Kessler and his fancy equipment, but sometimes you just need a backstage newbie to capture the moment (on a compact little digital camera, no less). Now presenting our New York spring/summer 2009 backstage pass…
